What was once common is becoming rare.
We used to know our neighbours. We used to share spaces, stories, and a sense of place. Connection was so common nobody thought to protect it.
With a lack of balance, distance, division and a quiet drift into corners and camps can make the people right beside us feel like strangers.
But we can choose something different.
This symbol is simple.
Orange for the coulees and prairie.
Green for the vibrant life of the city.
Blue for the open sky.
Shelter in our beautiful river valley.
But that's just the setting. What makes a community strong is our interconnection. The paths that we share, woven together.
There is more that this symbol means. And that's what you, as a member of the Medicine Hat community, see in it.
The best symbols don't tell you what to think. They give you something to think with. Simple enough to carry. Open enough to mean something different to everyone who holds it.

Why a Flag?
A flag is a visible, shared symbol that says something worth standing for lives here. It gathers and unites us. It gives us a way to express not just our pride, but our hopes for our community.
Flags can create a positive feedback loop, where the love for our city and the symbol that represents it bounce off of each other, pushing each other forward. When that happens, it changes us. We go from being individuals to citizens. A community of people, inspired to see the place we share thrive.
When it works, it’s felt. It's a reminder that you belong here, and so does the person beside you.
Why Do This?
This flag was made by a couple of average Medicine Hat community members, just like yourself, as a gift to the city and the people we share it with.
This isn’t Medicine Hat’s official flag. One day, we would like it to be. But that is a decision we want the community of Medicine Hat to make for themselves.
This new flag for Medicine Hat is not aligned with a political or ideological point of view. Its only purpose is to be a symbol for the people of Medicine Hat that helps build a stronger community.
Medicine Hat Common isn’t here to make a statement. We're here to raise a standard.

What Now?
If you love Medicine Hat and want to see it thrive, if you are excited about the potential this city has, if you feel our community could be strengthened by weaving each of our paths together, this symbol is for you. We want you to share it and show it off.
